This project was a combination of two of my most favorite things in graphic design that being lettering and typography, I wanted this project to serve as a daily exercise to put both of these into practice. Also, this would be like my daily morning ritual, to get started with my day. My goal was to reflect the personality onto each poster.
The concept of the whole project was very simple, designing a poster every day for 50 days, and the theme could be anything interesting that I come across in my day to day life, it could be a movie, a song, a quote or an artist that I recently came across.
Most of the lettering pieces were drawn using a basic grid layout and basic geometric shapes. To maintain consistency across all the 50 posters I made a template that would bind all the posters together. In addition to the lettering, I used some secondary type so that it acts as a supporting element and gives some context to the poster, giving some basic details to the viewer.
Since I had to come up with 50 posters, it took me exactly 50 days, I used to spend sometime around 30-45 mins for one poster. So that it would not take much of my time, also I could do it on a daily basis, without exhausting or spending more time on it.
My takeaway from the project would be I wanted to do something on daily basis, so that I can commit some time from my daily schedule into designing these posters also I wanted to train my mind to think fast and spontaneously. So I would be able to come up with ideas quickly. I wanted to keep them as basic as possible. So that I could follow the same for all the other days.
Towards the end of the project, I could see a wide variety of letterforms. Though most of them had the same base yet they differed in character and the treatment. Which made them look different from each other. I also got to learn the hierarchy through the secondary type that went into the posters. Overall it was a great exercise to come up with something really quick and to get a sense of discipline.
